The newly opened assisted living and memory care community, Waltonwood Cotwsold, recently developed a partnership with students at Myers Park High School who have developmental disabilities. Through this partnership, the students volunteer once a month at Waltonwood Cotswold to learn life and work skills. Students have the opportunity to shadow the employees at their jobs and assist with tasks, gain confidence in their skills and interact with the senior residents. The students work in all sections of the senior living community, including the dining room, memory care, assisted living and fitness areas to learn skills they can take to future employment opportunities. The students and residents enjoy one another’s company and look forward to the monthly visits not only to engage with people they wouldn’t normally interact with, but to learn something from one another.

Michigan-based Singh Development is proud to announce the opening of its second Waltonwood senior living community in Charlotte: Waltonwood Cotswold. Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Cotswold, Waltonwood is bringing its expertly-designed, luxury assisted living and memory care concept to even more seniors in Charlotte.  The 120,000-square-foot, $40 million senior living community recently opened its doors and residents began moving into their new homes. The community created 125 jobs, which provides a boost for the local economy. The community will host an official Grand Opening ceremony in early fall.

Waltonwood Cotswold is built on more than eight acres and features 91 assisted living apartments and 26 memory care apartments. The senior living community provides worry-free and maintenance-free living for those who want the freedom to pursue their passions during retirement. Waltonwood Cotswold offers three nutritious chef-prepared meals made-to-order in a restaurant-style dining room each day, housekeeping and laundry service, licensed nurses on staff 24 hours a day, medication management, a movie theater, billiards and game room, café, state of the art fitness center, salon, landscaped courtyards and much more.

Leading the Waltonwood Cotswold team is experienced Executive Director Leah Nash.  Nash is from Waxhaw and studied health and wellness promotion at the University of North Carolina at Asheville before receiving her master’s degree in health administration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her main role is to guide all staff as they seek to offer high-quality, resident-centered care for seniors in the Cotswold area.

“To work in a community that truly offers such a high standard of care for its residents is wonderful,” said Nash. “This environment will be unlike any other assisted living and memory care community in the area because it provides residents with a sense of purpose, dignity and fulfillment through a variety of dynamic offerings which are designed to meet a variety of preferences and needs that are unique to each individual. I’m proud to work here, and I look forward to developing relationships with seniors and families as residents move to our community.”

Waltonwood Cotswold provides all residents with a lifestyle and care that is designed to improve quality of life and accommodate changing care needs. The goal is to help residents with daily activities so they can enjoy their lives without worry or stress. Waltonwood’s Montessori-based memory care program specifically addresses the individual needs of seniors and encourages participation in activities that trigger memories, build agility and strengthen muscles – such as outdoor excursions, off-site activities or gardening. The memory care areas are specifically designed with varying wall colors to delineate rooms and help residents with identification of their surroundings.

Singh currently owns and operates nine other Waltonwood Senior Communities in Michigan and North Carolina, and has several other communities in development and under construction in North Carolina, northern Virginia and the greater Washington, DC market.
